General
frequently asked questions on ordering cabinets from DoItYourselfKitchenCabinets.Com
1- Why
should I buy cabinets from you when I can go to a kitchen
store or home center?
As
a direct dealer of quality, semi-custom Timberlake
cabinets, we can offer hundreds or thousands of dollars
in savings on a typical order.
Local kitchen and bath cabinet showrooms, large home
centers, and independent remodeling contractors, all
have two things in common ... high overhead, and limited
geographic area. This means that each cabinet sale must
result in a high profit margin for them since they must
cover the higher operating costs and overhead with a
limited number of potential customers. Our philosophy
is to gain customers by beating everyone else's prices
on similar quality made-to-order cabinetry. We would
rather make less on your cabinet sale, but leave you
happy with the value of your investment so that you
feel comfortable referring us to others. We can work
with homeowners directly, or their installers in any
area, so our potential customer base will extend far
beyond how far a particular contractor is willing to
drive, or a homeowner is willing to travel to a showroom.
For us, low prices and high volume make sense since
we can simultaneously service many more customers over
a larger area.
Dealing direct will also cut out the profits of the
middle men - pay your designer just to design, or your
installer just for installation - not a markup on cabinets
they had no part in producing. Better yet, we'll work
with you so that you can design and install yourself,
which will save you additional hundreds or thousands
of dollars. Not convinced yet? A sample kitchen layout
is priced on our Pricing page.
2- How
can I get help with my cabinet order?
Ordering
an entire room of cabinets, especially a kitchen cabinet
layout or a bathroom cabinet layout, can be intimidating.
Our promise is that we will spend whatever time is necessary
to ensure you will have the proper cabinets and accessories
for a beautiful and functional layout. If you are committed
to buying your cabinets from us, we are committed to
you. As a family run business, our reputation is important
to us, so you will not find better service anywhere
else. We will bend over backwards to ensure your satisfaction.
Simply call 1-877-99-cabinets anytime to speak
with one of us, or contact
us here. We know these cabinets better than any
salesman, designer, or contractor knows any one of the
many products they deal with. From helping you in choosing
your style and finish to working with you or your installer
to complete your installation, we are avilable to provide
all the answers to any question you may have at any
stage of the process.
3- Is
it safe to make such a large purchase online?
Our
ordering process is as secure as any system can possibly
be. No online system is 100% secure, so to remove even
the slightest risk, our process is fast, efficient,
reliable, and combines online ordering with traditional
100% safe offline ordering. Our online order form is
designed to move through the preliminary steps of collecting
certain information, but then the sensitive payment
information is exchanged later by traditional means
after we have spoken. This is necessary because each
order is reviewed to ensure you have everything you
need. Since each order is reviewed by a real person
anyway, we don't see the need for a fully automated
process - besides, we're old fashioned, and although
engagement rings, computers, appliances, and even automobiles
are sold totally online now, we like dealing directly
with our customers. After we speak and your order is
confirmed, you may use a credit card given over the
phone. This will ensure you order is begun quickly and
most people feel even safer with the extra fraud protection
credit cards offer. The payment is processed through
the same safe networks used when you make a credit card
payment in person.
4- What
forms of payment are accepted?
We
accept payment by credit card, certified check, or personal
check. Personal checks will delay orders by a few days
while they clear. Our experience is that most people
choose to use credit cards for their extented payment
terms, fraud protection, and immediate start of manufacture
on our end. When you use a credit card, we are charged
extra processing fees, which are not added to your total.
These are in addition to sales tax, handling, and delivery
charges which are all also included. If you are placing
a large order, or you are a contractor or professional,
ask us about discounts for certain types of payment
and tax exempt status. We give a bottom-line price which
includes everything because we know our prices will
beat the competition. See us after you have your best
price.
5- Why
should I order cabinets online that I cannot touch first?
If
you go to a home warehouse or kitchen design center
you will see expertly designed vignettes complete with
accessories designed to look good in their space, not
in your home. The sample layouts can be observed, doors
can be opened, drawers can be slid, the wood can be
stroked and a color can be picked. Unfortunately, while
a skilled craftsperson might learn much from a hands-on
inspection, the fact is that most of us lack the expertise
to evaluate the quality of the finish, craftsmanship,
or the wood itself, in person. You
can learn about our furniture grade craftsmanship here.
Our cabinets meet or exceed the quality of those found
in these types of stores. In fact, because Timberlake
is manufactured by American Woodmark, the third largest
cabinet manufacturer in the western hemisphere, some
popular kitchen showrooms and home centers actually
carry the same cabinets under different names. Call
us for details. You will never find the level of service
we offer in these places. (Try to get a home number
to call them late one Saturday night while you are in
the middle of an installation) As for prices, all we
will say is to talk to us last, after you have your
best price from one of these places ... it will be worth
your while.
6- Are
you the only dealer for these cabinets?
No,
we are not. While we do have an arrangement in our geographic
area, as noted above, because Timberlake is manufactured
by American Woodmark, the third largest cabinet manufacturer
in the western hemisphere, some popular kitchen showrooms
and home centers actually carry the same cabinets under
different names. Call us and we will discuss. We are
currently the first dealer of Timberlake cabinetry to
market cabinets online with a website such as this.
The idea is to combine the pride and unsurpassed service
of a family business with an excellent product and extend
this to a wider audience at radically lower prices reflecting
the reduced overhead.
7- Can
I see them in-person, before I purchase?
Yes,
please call for details. While we are unable to send
free samples out to curious potential buyers, we will
work with seriously interested customers to make sure
they are comfortable with their purchase.
8- Who
will install them / do you install?
It's
up to you. If you are tool savvy and you have some home
improvement experience, you can feel confident that
with our expert advice you can handle the installation
yourself, saving thousands. (Of course, we cannot guarantee
your skills, and so we cannot be responsible for problems
with installation, but we will work with you to resolve
any issues that arise.) If you are interested in installation
with a professional, ask us. Since many professionals
purchase cabinets from us, we will be able to recommend
someone in your area familiar with our products and
semi-custom cabinet installations. If you already have
a trusted contractor, or you were referred to one, have
them call us directly and we will work with them to
ensure your job is expertly installed.
9- Who
will design the layout and measure?
Again,
it's up to you. We will help you design your own layout,
or you can send us a layout done by a professional designer
or a home center. See
our article on how to measure here. Send us your
measurements, (or anyone's accurate measurements of
your space), or your blueprints and we will go through
the options and optimize a layout for you. If you are
a professional, or you have worked with us before, our
cabinet specifications guides are here. Simply send
us your list according to these guides and we can fill
your order quickly. Whatever your current skill level
is, we can work with you.
10- Do
you carry just kitchen cabinets, or also cabinets for
other rooms?
Today,
fine cabinetry is found in any room of the home. Each
year, showcase homes and builder's models throughout
the country feature Timberlake furniture-grade cabinets
in kitchens, bathrooms, dining rooms, dens, home offices,
libraries, basements, garages, and more. See
samples of cabinets in every room of the home here.
Frequently
asked questions about your cabinet order from DoItYourselfKitchenCabinets.Com
1- What
information do I need to place my cabinet order?
At
a minimun, you need the measurements of your space.
See our article on
how to measure here. From this we will create a
layout based on your needs by asking questions concerning
how you use the space and what functionality you are
interested in. If you have a layout designed by yourself,
or a home center, or kitchen showroom, we can work with
that by adding accessories and focal points to create
interest and a custom look. Or, if you are comfortable
with your existing layout, or a new layout that has
been designed, we can provide the necessary cabinets
and accessories at a huge cost savings.
Simply fax or mail your measurements, layout, or list
(contact
info is here), and fill
out the order form here as best you can. We can
help you along - just call 1-877-99-cabinets.
2- Is
there sales tax on my cabinet order?
Yes,
absolutely - but it is included in our low prices. Irregardless
of payment method, we are required by the government
to collect sales taxes, but to keep it simple, we include
these in our prices. Qualified professionals may not
be subject to sales tax. Please contact
us if you are a cabinet professional purchasing
for a client or customer of yours.
3- Is
there shipping and or a handling charge on my cabinet
order?
Orders over $1,000 are shipped absolutely free, with
no delivery or handling charges. Most full kitchen cabinet
or bathroom cabinet layouts will fall into this category.
Small or follow-up orders with a single or a few smaller
items that are shipped via UPS or FedEx will have regular
shipping charges applied by the carrier.
4- Can
I change my cabinet order once it is placed?
Yes,
as long as it is to add items to the order. Unfortunately,
once the order is reviewed and approved, items may not
be cancelled or sizes or finishes changed. This is because
once the manufacturer begins assembling and finishing
the cabinets, time and materials are being dedicated
to the order as it was placed. Since this order is being
created to your measurements, it is not as simple as
exchanging an oak cabinet for a cherry one. These cabinets
are not kept in stock and so in return for the cost
savings and multitude of options, once an order is begun,
it cannot be changed except to add new pieces. The best
situation is where a layout is carefully designed and
an order is checked and confirmed to work in the space
so that no changes are ever necessary.
5- Can
I return the cabinets after delivery?
No,
unless there is a manufacturing
defect or delivery
damage.
In appreciation of the savings and multitude of options
of ordering from a semi-custom just-in-time manufacturer,
your new made-to-order cabinets are not returnable as
they are not kept in stock in any warehouse and so returned
cabinets cannot be used to fill anyone else's order.
Your order is a system of cabinets, fillers, panels,
accessories, and moldings that are finished as you choose
and then shipped to work specifically in your space,
and once reviewed by Do it Yourself Kitchen Cabinets,
Inc., and approved by you, it is not possible to cancel
or return any part of your order unless there are defects
or damage.
6- Do
I have to be home for delivery?
Yes.
Delivery can be made in 1 of 2 ways:
By UPS or FedEx for very small orders, or
By Common Freight Carrier (hand delivered by truck)
for larger orders with more peices.
The freight carrier has acknowledged the receipt of
this shipment from the manufacturer in "GOOD CONDITION".
By your acceptance of the shipment from the carrier
on the bill of lading, (shipping documents), you acknowledge
that the product has been delivered in "GOOD CONDITION"
unless you note otherwise. This is why it is essential
for an adult over the age of 18 to be there to receive
and check in the order. Your order will not be left
without a signature. Although delivery is free on orders
over $1,000, there may be costs associated with repeated
failed delivery attempts caused by late cancellations
or non-appearance by the customer or their representitive
at the agreed delivery time.
It is essential to work with the driver and his list
to be sure everything matches. All cartons will be clearly
marked with a number that should match the order confirmation
list you will recieve prior to delivery.
7- What
if one of the cabinets is not delivered?
Claims
for missing items must be made at the time of delivery.
All cartons will be clearly marked with a number that
should match the order confirmation list you will recieve
prior to delivery. Please note on the shipping documents,
(before signing in the presence of the driver), any
non-delivered items. The driver should have a notation
of the problem on his copy of the shipping document
when he leaves. You may also call us so that we can
confirm any missing items with the driver to ensure
the situation will be easily resolved.
8- What
if one of the cabinets is damaged?
1
- Claims for MISSING, OBVIOUSLY DAMAGED (ie. ripped,
crushed, or damaged cartons), or INCORRECT items must
be made immediately. Please note on the shipping documents,
(before signing in the presence of the driver), any
non-delivered, obviously damaged, or not ordered items.
The driver will inspect any contents of a damged carton
with you. The driver should have a notation of the problem
on his copy of the shipping document when he leaves.
You may also call us so that we can confirm any problems
with the driver to ensure the situation will be easily
resolved.
2
- Claims for DAMAGE WHICH IS NOT OBVIOUS from the condition
of the carton must be made within 2 days (48 hours)
of receipt of the order. This means that all cartons
should be opened within 2 days and each cabinet inspected.
Please contact us immediately in the event of a problem.
It is important to retain the undamaged shipping carton.
9- How
long will it take for my cabinet order to arrive?
Although these premium cabinets are made to your measurements
at the time of order, they are ready for delivery within
2-3 weeks for a typical kitchen or bathroom. Large orders
consisting of many cabinets, or cabinets with options
such as increased or reduced depths, matching interiors,
or premium glaze finishes may take slightly longer.
Also, work cannot begin until payment is made, and so
personal checks will delay an order while they clear.
A delivery time will be confirmed shortly after the
order is finalized.
10- Will
my cabinet order be insured and tracked?
Yes,
there is no risk to you in ordering with us. We will
contact you shortly after the order is finalized to
set a delivery day and estimated time within a few hours.
If your order is lost, destroyed, or damaged during
shipping, there is no cost to you whatsoever. We will
also be in contact if there are any delays or problems
due to scheduling, weather, natural disasters, etc.
