A rustic,
custom, built-in look is created with deep grain hickory
den cabinets. Open-frame square door cabinets form a base
with a finished panel on top as a shelf for the television.
Above that another panel forms the shelf for a DVD or
VCR. The unit is topped with three cabinets and crown
molding.
A unit like this can be custom designed
for any area, even an entire wall. The bottom shelves
can be used for storage in the den, or for storage of
tapes, discs and other media.
Note the center top cabinet is an open frame
cabinet meant for glass, but covered in acoustic felt
for a speaker. |

This
entertainment unit is at home in a den, living room, or
library. It is composed of bookcase units mounted on closed
base cabinets. Repetitive use of common elements, furniture
toe kicks, and crown molding make the unit come together
like a piece of custom fine furniture.
The center unit is deeper and
extends into the room. There is ample space for today's
larger TVs. Finished panels dress the sides of the center
unit and the interior of the TV area.
Note how the choice of light maple wood
sets off the dark hardwood floor and white mantle trim. |

This entertainment unit spans an
opening from floor to ceiling with a matching finished
filler panel taking up the space at the sides and top
of the layout.
A bookshelf unit can hold a stereo
system, or shelves can be purchased separately in matching
finish to create space for stereo or video components.
As in most of these layouts, there is more than one
way to achieve the desired functionality.
The two bottom cabinets contain speakers.
The doors are open frame but instead of glass, acoustic
felt covers the opening. These match the center speaker
under the TV.

Big
screen TVs are large, which limits the design possibilities
of the furniture which surrounds them. A piece can only
be so big, as the size of the customer's walls or doorways
is limited.
This entertainment cabinet layout elevates
the TV off of the floor and surrounds it with interior-lit
glass door cabinets to display books, media, or knickknacks.
By hanging the glass door cabinets low
to the top of the base cabinets, spaces are created for
audio or video components. |
